Emory Volleyball Takes Two Matches At Wid Guisler Invitational -- Moves Record To 27-4

The No. 6-ranked Emory volleyball team closed out a nine-match swing of the state of Pennyslvania on a successful note on Saturday, winning a pair of matches on the final day of action at the Wid Guisler Invitational on the campus of Juniata College.  The Eagles opened the day with a 3-1 victory (20-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-16) over No. 23-ranked Eastern University  before posting a 3-1 triumph (25-19, 25-18, 26-28, 25-15) against Heidelberg College.  Emory now stands 27-4 on the year.

Emory finished with a .356 hitting percentage compared to Eastern's effort of .265.  Though it was outdug by a 57-46 margin, head coach Jenny McDowell saw her Emory side conclude the match with a 9-3 cushion in total blocks.  After dropping the opening set, Emory hit .415 over the final three games to secure the victory.  Senior Breanah Bourque was nearly unstoppable, blasting away for a team-high 18 kills, her second-highest effort of the season, posting a .654 hitting percentage (18-1—26) and totaling a team-best five blocks.  Sophomore Cami Silverman stepped up with a season-high 14 terminations, registering a .429 hitting mark (14-2—28), while chipping in 12 digs, her fifth double-double (kills/digs) of the campaign.  Senior Alex Duhl made the most of her offensive opportunities, finishing with a keen .529 hitting percentage after registering nine kills with no miscues in 17 attempts.  Freshman setter Sydney Miles tallied 46 assists and contributed three blocks in the win.

In the finale against Heidelberg,  Bourque came through with another huge offensive effort, pounding out a season-high tying 22 kills and recording a .571 attack percentage (22-2—35).  Silverman played a key role in the decision, peppering the 'Berg with 13 successful attack attempts while topping the team with a career-high 23 digs.  Duhl and sophomore Kate Bowman finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively, with Bowman adding 14 digs.   


Emory returns home, Oct. 26-27, to host its National Invitational Tournament.
