Emory's Breanah Bourque Named Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player Of The Week

Emory's Breanah Bourque Named Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player Of The Week

Emory University senior middle hitter Breanah Bourque (Houston, TX) has been named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III National Player of the Week after leading the Eagles to a 5-0 record including three wins at Juniata College's Wid Guisler Invitational.

The 5-foot-11 Bourque turned in a sparkling effort, leading the squad in kills in all five outings and closing out the week with team-leading averages in kills (5.12 kps), attack percentage (.467) and blocks (0.76 bps).

Included in her totals was a MVP performance at the Wid Guisler Invitational where she averaged a team-high 5.09 kills, hit .484 (56-10--95) and chalked up a club-best 0.82 blocks per set.  In a 3-0 win over No. 21 Juniata, she pounded out 16 terminations and totaled four blocks and followed that performance by blasting away for 18 kills that accompanied a .630 attack percentage (18-1--27), the second-best mark by any Emory player this year, and five blocks in a 3-1 triumph vs. No. 23 Eastern.  In the final match of the Invitational, she totaled 22 kills, tying her second-highest career total, and hit .571 (22-2--35) in a 3-1 triumph vs. Heidelberg.

She has come through with 23 contests of double-figure terminations this year and has hit .350 or better on 17 occasions.  In UAA statistics released earlier this week, Bourque ranks as the league's No. 1 performer in hitting percentage (.385) while ranking third in blocks (0.90 bps) and fourth in kills (3.52 kps).

Career-wise, she holds down the No. 7 spot on the school's all-time ladder with 1,405 kills and is fifth with 375 total blocks.

Bourque's selection represents the seventh time that an Emory player has earned the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week Award. She joins Liana Roman (Oct. 14, 1996), Jennifer Naeger (Oct. 26, 1998), Lulu Sewell (Sept. 9, 2002),  Courtney Rose (Oct. 25, 2004), Alysse Meyer (Sept. 9, 2008) and Amelia McCall (Oct. 26, 2010) as Emory performers who have been tabbed for the honor.

Head coach Jenny McDowell and the Eagles, 27-4 overall and ranked No. 6 among D-III programs, return to action this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 26-27) when they host the Emory National Invitational.
