REGIONAL FACTS
–  The No. 6 nationally ranked Emory University volleyball team will be one of 64 teams vying for the Division III national crown.  The Eagles begin their quest when they compete in the Newport News, Virginia, Regional hosted by Christopher Newport University.  Emory has drawn the No. 1 seed and will tangle with No. 8 seed Salem College from the Great South Conference in the first round.  All matches will be held at the Freeman Center on the CNU campus.

Action in the eight-team regional begins on Friday (Nov. 9) with four first-round matches.  On Saturday, the regional semifinals will be played at 2:30 and 5:00 p.m., with the Regional Championship slated for 2:00 p.m., on Sunday (Nov. 11).  A list with times of the contests are below.

THE COACHES – Emory head coach Jenny McDowell (Georgia, '89) is in her 17th year at the helm of the Eagles' program.  During her stint at Emory, she has compiled a school and career record of 543-133.  She has 14 campaigns of 30 or more wins, and has now directed the program to 17 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.  She has steered the Eagles to three berths to the national semifinals and has a national championship to her credit in 2008.

Salem College is led by Dana Wall (San Diego State, '81), who is in her first campaign as head coach.  

Bill Rogers (Virginia Commonwealth, 1990) is in his 11th year in charge of the Randolph-Macon program and starts the weekend with a won-lost slate of 252-103. He has led the Yellow Jackets to four NCAA Tournament berths.

In his 13th season in directing the fortunes at Washington & Lee is Bryan Snyder (W&L, '95).  Heading into its battle vs. Christopher Newport, Snyder has manufactured an impressive school mark 366-99.  In 15 years as a head coach, which includes a two-year stint at St. Mary's (MD), Snyder has a career performance of 407-124.  This will be the tenth time that he has directed the Generals to the NCAA Tournament.

Calling the shots for Christopher Newport is head coach Lindsay Birch (CNU, 1992). Now in her 11th year with the Captains, Burch heads into the NCAA Tournament with a school and career mark of 349-82.   This is the ninth time that the Captains have landed a berth in the NCAA Tournament during her tenure with the program claiming 2011 national runner-up honors.

Julie Jenkins (William & Mary, '81) is in her 28th season as the head coach at Trinity University and owns a school effort of 737-339. This weekend's action will represent the 19th time that she has directed the Tigers to the NCAAs.  In 30 years as a head coach, Jenkins has a career ledger of 760-366.

In his eighth season as the head coach at Gallaudet University is Lynn Ray Boren (Gallaudet, 1996).  Under his watch, the Bison have captured five NCAA Tournament spots while chalking up an impressive mark of 203-94.

The Eagles of Juniata are led by second-year head coach Heather Pavlik (Juniata, '95).  At the start of the Newport News Regional, Pavlik posts a school and career record of 51-19.

2012 RECORDS – Emory, which was ranked No. 6 nationally among Division III teams in the Oct. 30 AVCA Poll, stands 31-5 in overall play.  Last weekend, the Eagles nailed down their third University Athletic Association title in the past four years and fifth overall.  The Eagles defeated Case Western, 3-1, in the semifinals before registering a 3-1 triumph over No. 1 Washington University in the title bout.  Emory has six straight seasons and 15 overall of 30 or more wins.

Salem brings an overall record of 14-13 into the match with Emory.  The Spirits earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament following their 3-1 win over Huntingdon College in the finals of the Great South Conference Championships this past weekend.  

Randolph-Macon checks in with a 23-6 ledger and earned its spot in the postseason via an at-large bid.  In their most recent outing, the Yellow Jackets fell to Lynchburg in the semifinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Gallaudet nabbed an automatic spot in the NCAAs for the ninth time in school history after defeating Keuka, 3-0, in the finals of the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championships. The victory over the Storm boosted Gallaudet's record to 31-6.

With its claiming the program's sixth straight Landmark Conference Championship, Juniata College secured an automatic spot in this year's NCAA field, the 32nd straight year that the Eagles will be competing in the postseason.  Juniata, ranked 23rd on the national scene, will meet Trinity with an overall showing of 24-11.

Trinity University sports an overall record of 20-15.  The Tigers received an at-large bid to the Newport News Regional after falling to Colorado College in the championship round of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. 

Since losing to Emory by a 3-2 count at the Trinity National Invitational back on Sept. 14, Christopher Newport, ranked No. 5 nationally, has rattled off 28 straight wins that has enabled it to raise its record to 26-2.  Ranked No. 5 nationally, the Captains have registered a 16-0 effort in home matches this year while boasting a 53-1 mark since 2010.  CNU garnered an automatic bid to the national tournament after capturing its sixth consecutive USA South Championship.

Washington and Lee stands 26-9 and made its way to the Regional with an automatic bid after winning the ODAC title with a 3-1 verdict over Lynchburg this past weekend.

SERIES RECORDS WITH REGIONAL FIELD – Emory has won the only meeting against Salem College with that match taking place in 1991.

Emory holds an 11-10 edge in the all-time series with Trinity. The Eagles have captured the last two outings including a 3-2 decision earlier this year (Sept. 15) at the Trinity National Invitational. 

Juniata posts a 9-6 edge in the all-time series vs. Emory, however Emory has won the last six encounters including a 3-0 verdict earlier this year at the Wid Guisler Invitational hosted by Juniata.

Emory has emerged victorious in all nine of it contests vs. Randolph-Macon.  The Eagles hosted the Yellow Jackets earlier this season (Sept. 21) and came away with a 3-0 triumph.  The two teams met in the second round of last year's NCAA Regional at Christopher Newport with Emory notching a 3-0 win.

The Bison of Gallaudet hold a 2-1 margin in the series against Emory.  The last meeting took place in 1993 with the Eagles coming away with the win at the Emory & Henry Tournament.

Emory has compiled an all-time mark of 23-1 against Washington and Lee.  The Eagles and Generals have already battled twice this year with Emory winning both encounters including a 3-1 outcome (Oct. 27) at the Emory National Invitational.

Emory has won 11 of the 12 meetings against the Captains of Christopher Newport.  Emory and CNU squared off earlier this year at the Trinity Invitational where Emory prevailed by a 3-2 score.  CNU knocked Emory out of the NCAA Tournament last year with a 3-0 decision in the regional finals.

EMORY AND THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
– Emory's appearance in this year's NCAA Tournament Championship represents the program's 18th appearance in the event, and the 17th during Jenny McDowell's tenure as head coach.  The Eagles post an all-time record of 29-17 in NCAA play, 29-16 under McDowell.  The Eagles have played 15 NCAA matches on their home floor and stand 11-4 in those contests while showing a 18-13 slate in road/neutral matches. 


EMORY AND THE NCAA FIELD – Emory has played a total of 17 matches against 15 teams that advanced to this year's NCAA Tournament Championship.  The Eagles have enjoyed a fair amount of success against this year's field that it has faced, racking up a 14-3 won-lost mark.  The Eagles have battled two NCAA Tourney members on two occasions (Washington University, 1-1 and Washington and Lee 2-0).

BOURQUE CLIMBING THE CHARTS – Heading into this weekend's Newport News Regional, senior middle Breanah Bourque finds herself firmly entrenched in a number of Emory career statistical categories.  The 5-foot-11 Bourque has totaled 1,481 terminations, good for the No. 5 position on the school's all-time chart, while her .388 hitting percentage (1,481-322—2987) is good for the No. 1 spot.   The owner of 86 outings of double-figure kills, Bourque's attack attempts total ranks ninth on the school's all-time ladder.    In addition, Breanah has hold of the No. 5 spot at Emory with 382 total blocks.  As for the 2012 campaign, her 460 kills places her 10th on the Eagles' seasonal chart while her .393 hitting percentage (460-99—918) is seventh.

ERWIN SETS SEASONAL DIGS RECORD – During the UAA Championships, freshman Taylor Erwin established a school seasonal record for digs.  The 5-foot-10 libero totaled 48 digs in the two matches, boosting her yearly total to 596 and bettering the previous standard of 574 set by Maggie Ramm during the 2007 campaign.  Erwin, whose 3.93 digs-per-average ranks eighth among UAA players, has totaled 12 matches of 20 or more digs including 27 against Case Western in the semifinals of the UAA Championships.

NOTES – Emory's 60 kills against Washington University in the UAA Championships match represented the sixth time this season that it had reached or surpassed that total … The Eagles finished with a .312 (57-14—138) hitting mark against Case Western, the 12th match of the year where they had registered an attack percentage of .300 or higher … Freshman Sydney Miles has moved into the No. 1 spot among UAA players in assists (10.62 aps) … With this weekend's regional action on the horizon, Miles has doled out 1,242 assists, good for 12th place on the school's seasonal chart … Sophomore Cami Silverman heads into the postseason with three straight and a total of 10 double-doubles (kills/digs) … Emory ranks second in the UAA in attack percentage (.246), assists (12.18 aps) and kills (13.25 kps) … Senior middle Alex Duhl is second on the team and seventh among UAA performers in attack percentage (.295) … Duhl's 0.71 blocks-per-set average is second on the squad and seventh on the UAA list … Career-wise, Duhl has compiled 283 total blocks, 11th on the school's all-time list.
