The No. 4-ranked Emory volleyball team got back into the win column with a pair of Friday victories on the opening day of action at the Emory Invitational. The Eagles boosted their record to 12-1 after coming away with 3-0 decisions over Emory and Henry College and Maryville College.
Junior Kate Bowman (Corpus Christi, TX) led the Emory attack in the E&H match, registering a dozen kills along with a team-leading nine digs. Bowman concluded the contest with a .400 hitting percentage (12-2—25) while her terminations total represented her sixth outing of double figures this season. Freshman Shannon Nugent (Vernon Hills, IL) made her presence felt with a season-high seven kills that complemented a .600 attack percentage (7-1—10). Junior middle Cat McGrath (St. Louis, MO) pounded out nine successful attack opportunities and contributed three blocks while freshman Jessica Holler (Roswell, GA) and junior Sydney Miles (Oklahoma City, OK) both finished with six kills with Holler pacing all players with seven (3-4) blocks. As a team, the Eagles hit .371 (45-12—89) compared to the Wasps' mark of .012 (19-18—84), and enjoyed a wide 44-23 bulge in digs.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday with matches on tap against Covenant College and Wellesley.
