Emory Volleyball Wins Two -- Runs Record To 18-1

The No. 4-ranked Eagles volleyball team closed out a 12-match homestand on Saturday with two wins at the Emory Tournament.  Emory battled to an exciting come-from-behind 3-2 decision over Cornell College (25-23, 25-19, 25-17, 25-15, 15-7) in its first match of the day before rolling by Lynchburg, 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-18), in the finale.  The Eagles have won their last eight outings and stand 18-1 on the year.

After dropping two of the first three sets to the Rams, Emory regrouped in impressive fashion over the last two games, registering a .346 hitting percentage compared to CC's mark of .060.  The Eagles had a trio of double-figure terminators led by junior Leah Jacobs with a dozen.  Junior Kate Bowman and Jessica Holler each contributed 10 successful attack opportunities with Holler adding five blocks (0-5).  Sophomore Taylor Erwin led all players with 18 digs and helped Emory to a 71-61 advantage in that department.  Cornell College's Kathleen O'Connor topped all players with 24 kills, an opponent high against Emory this season.

Holler was the lone player to finish with double figures with 11 kills in the Lynchburg encounter, finishing with an impressive .556 attack percentage (11-1—18) while chipping in four blocks.  Bowman rang up eight kills while junior Cat McGrath and Jacobs each finished with seven terminations.  For the match, Emory hit .333 (41-8—99), the eighth time this year it posted an attack percentage of .300 or higher, while the Hornets finished with an effort of .053 (32-26—114).  The Eagles enjoyed a 45-40 margin in digs and a
9-0 advantage in total blocks.

Emory returns to action next Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 5-6) when it travels to Cleveland, Ohio, to play in the University Athletic Association Round Robin I hosted by Case Western.
