Cat McGrath & Taylor Erwin Earn UAA Volleyball Honors

Emory University junior middle hitter Cat McGrath (St. Louis, MO) and sophomore Taylor Erwin (Woodlands, TX) have been named by the University Athletic Association as Players of the Week following their performances in helping the Eagles to a 4-0 record at the Emory National Invitational. It is the second time in her career that Erwin has earned the honor and McGrath's first selection.

The 6-foot-2 McGrath was chosen as the league's Co-Offensive Player of the Week after posting impressive numbers that included a team-leading .458 attack percentage (49-5—96) and a 3.06 kills-per-set average. She recorded double-figure kills and hit .340 or better in all four matches and paced the squad in terminations (10) in a 3-1 win vs. Cortland and with 13 kills in a 3-1 decision over No. 9 Juniata. On the final day of action, McGrath picked up 11 kills and added a match-high tying five blocks (3-2) in a 3-1 win against Berry before picking up 15 terminations, an attack percentage of .452 (15-1--31) and three blocks in a 3-2 win over No. 15 Trinity.  Through matches played Nov. 2, McGrath leads the league in hitting percentage (.398), ranks fourth in blocks (0.85) and is 16th in kills (2.46 kps).

The 5-foot-10 Erwin turned in stellar defensive play from her libero post in claiming UAA Co-Defensive/Setter Player of the Week kudos.  She played in all 16 of the team's sets and averaged a squad-best 4.94 digs per game with her effort helping limit the four opponents to just a .160 hitting percentage.  Erwin topped all players with 23 digs and added three assists in a 3-2 triumph over No. 9 Juniata and totaled 21 digs in a 3-1 win against Berry.  In the Invitational finale, she compiled a match-leading 25 digs in a 3-2 verdict over No. 15 Trinity, her second-highest total of the season and 11th outing of 20 or more this year.  Erwin is No. 4 on the UAA ladder in digs (4.43 dps) and her total of 501 is good for sixth place on the school's seasonal chart.

The Eagles, 28-3 overall, return to action this Friday and Saturday (Nov. 8-9) when they travel to Waltham, Mass., play at the UAA Championships.
