Emory's Leah Jacobs Earns Berth On Capital One Academic All-District Volleyball Team

Emory University  junior Leah Jacobs (Linville, VA) a key member of the Eagles' volleyball squad, has distinguished herself in the classroom, earning a first-team berth on the Capital One Academic All-District Team.  Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Emory's representatives are District 5 selections from Division III institutions comprised from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

The honor is awarded annually to student athletes who have excelled both academically and athletically.  To be eligible, a nominee must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at his/her current institution, carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and be a starter or key reserve.

Jacobs, who majors in Business Administration, owns a 3.75 GPA.  The three-year veteran has helped the No. 6-ranked Eagles to an overall record of 28-3 heading into this weekend's University Athletic Association Championships, playing in 105 of the team's 114 sets and averaging 2.85 kills per game, good for the No. 2 spot on the club and ninth among UAA performers.  The 5-foot-10 outside hitter has produced 16 matches of double-figure kills and has led or shared for team honors in that category on seven occasions, including a career-best 22 terminations in a 3-2 victory over No. 15 Trinity last Saturday.  Earlier in the season, she pounded out 19 kills in spearheading Emory's 3-1 decision over then No. 3-ranked Wittenberg.

By virtue of landing first-team recognition, Jacobs advances to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
