Emory Volleyball Tops Chicago In UAA Round Robin II Finale

The No. 3-ranked Emory volleyball team closed out its participation at the University Athletic Association Round Robin II on a successful note Sunday, defeating host Chicago.  The Eagles raised their overall record to 27-3, 6-1 in the UAA, following a 3-1 decision (25-19, 26-28, 25-22, 25-20) over the Maroons who slipped to 20-11, 4-3 in the league.

Emory concluded the contest hitting .272 (65-15—179) with its 65 terminations the third-highest total of the season.  Four Eagles rang up double figures in kills, led by sophomore Jessica Holler who notched 14 terminations to go along with a .538 hitting percentage (14-0—26).  Holler also came through with a career-high tying 10 blocks (0-10—10), sparking Emory to a 14-4 advantage in that category.  Sunday's finale capped a big weekend for Holler as she topped the team in kills (3.27 kps), hitting percentage (.489) and blocks (1.67 bps).  Senior Leah Jacobs chalked up 13 terminations, her 20th match of the season in double digits, while sophomore Kathryn Trinka and senior Cat McGrath contributed 12 and 11 kills, respectively, with Trinka adding five block assists.  Junior setter Sydney Miles distributed 50 assists, her fifth outing this where she had reached or surpassed that total, and chipped in 19 digs.  Senior Kate Bowman paced Emory with 22 digs.

The Eagles return to action on October 29 when they host Piedmont College.
