Emory Volleyball Defeats Washington and Lee

The No. 6-ranked Emory volleyball team finished off a perfect week of play on Saturday, defeating Washington and Lee in its final match of its National Invitational.  The Eagles registered their 29th straight home victory and boosted their overall record to 31-3 following a 3-0 verdict (25-15, 25-20, 25-19) over the Generals who slipped to 24-6.

For the 32st time this season, Emory finished with an advantage in hitting percentage, registering a .321 mark (47-11—112) compared to W&L's' .163 (29-13—98).  Today's effort represented the 15th time during the campaign that the Eagles had recorded an attack percentage of .300 or better.  Senior Leah Jacobs tied for match honors with 14 kills, her 22nd contest of the season with double figures, while senior Cat McGrath and sophomore Jessica Holler each chipped in 10 terminations, with Holler hitting at a blistering .562 clip (10-1—16) and McGrath at .421 (10-2—19).   Junior setter doled out 36 assists while senior Kate Bowman paced the team with 11 digs.

Next up for Emory is a trip to Pittsburgh, Pa., where it will compete in the University Athletic Association Championships next Friday and Saturday (Nov. 7-8).  The Eagles will enter the Championships as the No. 2 seed and face No. 7 seed Rochester in their first match on Friday starting at noon.
