Leah Jacobs Earns Berth On Capital One Academic All-District Volleyball Team

Emory senior Leah Jacobs (Linville, VA), a key member of the Eagles' volleyball squad, has distinguished herself in the classroom, earning a berth on the Capital One Academic All-District Team.  Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Emory's representatives are District 5 selections from Division III institutions comprised from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. It is the second straight season that Jacobs has been chosen for the honor.

The honor is awarded annually to student athletes who have excelled both academically and athletically.  To be eligible, a nominee must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at his/her current institution, carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and be a starter or key reserve.

Jacobs, who majors in Business Administration, owns a 3.88 GPA.  The four-year veteran has helped the No. 6-ranked Eagles to an overall record of 34-3 heading into the NCAA D-III Tournament later this week. Jacobs has appeared in 124 of the team's 130 sets and is averaging a squad-best 3.69 kills per set, which ranks second among UAA players and seventh on the school's seasonal chart.  Named the UAA Offensive Player of the Week on three occasions this year, Jacobs has produced a team-high 23 matches of double-figure terminations, and her 458 kills places her seventh on the Eagles' seasonal list. She has either led or tied for team honors in kills in 22 contests, including a career high of 27 vs. Berry (Aug. 31).

By virtue of her selection, Jacobs advances to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
