Emory's Jessica Holler and Kate Bowman Named UAA Volleyball Players Of The Week

Emory's Jessica Holler and Kate Bowman Named UAA Volleyball Players Of The Week

Emory University sophomore middle Jessica Holler (Roswell, GA) and senior Kate Bowman (Corpus Christi, TX) have been named by the University Athletic Association as Volleyball Players of the Week after helping the Eagles to a first-place effort at the league championship, the program's fourth title in the past six seasons.  It is the third time that Holler has been chosen for the award this year and Bowman's second.

The 6-foot-1 Holler was tabbed as the league's Offensive Player after playing in all 10 sets over the three matches, and tying for first on the squad with a 3.00 kills-per-set average while hitting .413 (30-4—63).  She either led or tied for the club lead in terminations in two contests, including a 13-kills performance in a 3-1 victory over Chicago in the title match.  It represented her 11th performance of double-figure kills in 28 outings.  In addition, Holler averaged 0.90 blocks-per-game that tied for the No. 2 spot on the team.  At the conclusion of the UAA Championships, Holler leads the conference in hitting percentage (. 407) and blocks (1.20 bps) while ranking fourth in kills average (2.76 kps).

Bowman was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week after turning a stellar effort at her libero post, averaging a team-leading 5.50 digs per set.  The 5-foot-9 Bowman led all players in digs in the three outings including a 27-digs performance in a 3-1 decision over Chicago in the title contest.  Bowman has chalked up 33 matches of double-figure digs including 10 of 20 or more.  In addition, she became the program's all-time leader in digs over the weekend with her mark of 1,368 surpassing the previous standard of 1,321 held by Maggie Ramm (2004-07).

Emory, 34-3 on the season, is gearing up for a trip to the St. Louis Regional of the NCAA Tournament this Friday through Sunday (Nov. 14-16).  The Eagles' first-round opponent will be Webster University with that battle taking place on Friday at 4:00 pm (EST).
