Emory's Sarah Maher & Kate Bowman Named UAA Volleyball Players of the Week

Emory University sophomore right side Sarah Maher (Orange, CA) and senior Kate Bowman (Corpus Christi, TX) have been named by the University Athletic Association as Volleyball Players of the Week after helping the Eagles to the championship performance at the St. Louis Regional of the NCAA D-III Tournament. It is the third time this season that Bowman has been selected for the award and Maher's first.

The 6-foot Maher was tabbed as the league's Offensive Player after seeing action in all 11 games over the three matches and averaging 2.18 kills and 2.27 digs per set.  Maher came up with a huge effort in the championship match of the regional against No.7 Washington University, racking up 16 terminations, tying her second-highest total, hitting .317 (16-3--41) and coming up with a career-high 12 digs.   It was her 12th contest of the season with double-figure terminations.   Maher finds herself tied for the No. 3 position among UAA players in hitting percentage (.311) and is ninth with a 2.53 kills-per-set average.

Bowman was selected as the Defensive Co-Player of the Week after turning in an outstanding effort at her libero post, playing in all 11 games and averaging a team-leading 5.45 digs per set.  The 5-foot-9 Bowman led Emory in that category in all three matches including a 23-digs outing in the 3-2 triumph over Washington University in the title match, her 12th performance of 20 or more this year.  Her 60 total digs over the weekend, boosted her 2014 total to 643, good for the No. 2 spot on the program's seasonal chart.  Heading into this weekend's NCAA Championships, Bowman is No. 2in the league in total digs and fifth is digs average (4.56 dps).

Emory, 37-3 on the season, is gearing up for its trip to Newport News, Va., where it will battle Williams College (28-4) on Friday (Nov. 21) in quarterfinal round action of the NCAA D-III Championships.
