Sarah Maher Earns UAA Volleyball Honor

Junior Sarah Maher has been named by the University Athletic Association as the Co-Offensive Player of the Week following her performance at the league's Round Robin I.  Maher shares the honor with Rexi Sheredy of Washington University.  It is the first time this season and second in her career that she has garnered the award.

The 6-foot-1 Maher helped the Eagles to a 3-0 record at the Round Robin, playing in all nine sets and ranking second on the squad in kills average (3.33 kps) and digs (2.78 dps), and third in hitting percentage (.409, 30-3--66) as the Eagles boosted their overall record to 20-2.

Maher recorded double-figure kills in two matches, 12 against Case Western in the UAA opener (13 digs) and a team-high tying 10 against Brandeis, a contest that saw her end with a season-high .588 attack percentage (10-0--17).  In the weekend finale, a 3-0 triumph vs. No. 21 Carnegie Mellon, Maher was second on the team with eight terminations and added five digs and two block assists.

Through matches played October 4, Maher ranks sixth among UAA performers in kills (2.91 kps), ninth in hitting percentage (.280) and 14th in digs (2.91 dps).

The Eagles of head coach Jenny McDowell return to action on Monday (Oct. 12) when they venture to Piedmont College for a 2:00 pm match.
