Emory Volleyball Closes Out UAA RR II With A Pair Of Sunday Wins

The No. 3-ranked Emory volleyball team closed out a strong weekend at the University Athletic Association Round Robin II on Sunday with a pair of wins.  The Eagles started with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-15) verdict over New York University before posting a similar score vs. No. 15 Chicago (26-24, 27-25, 25-17).   The Eagles have won their last 14 outings and stand 26-2 in overall play, 7-0 in UAA action.

Emory saw four players finish with double-figure kills against Chicago, led by junior Jessica Holler's 13 terminations, her seventh double-digit effort of the season.  Holler, who hit a blazing .684 (13-0--19) against the Maroons, also added four digs and a pair of block assists.  Freshman Karissa Dzurik pounded out 11 kills to go along with a .360 attack percentage (11-2--25), while the junior tandem of Kathryn Trinka and Sarah Maher each came through with 10 successful attack attempts.  Senior setter Sydney Miles chalked up 46 digs and chipped in nine digs while senior Ashley Crawford topped all players with 16 digs, tying her season high and her second-highest career total.  Emory concluded the UC bout hitting a fine .361 (52-9--119), its 12th contest of the year with a mark of .300 or higher, with UC finishing at .254 (43-11--126).

The Eagles kept the NYU offense in check, holding the Violets to a -.052 hitting percentage (19-24--96), partly of a 47-36 edge in digs and 10-8 advantage in total block.  Trinka paced all players with 14 kills while Maher contributed eight terminations and four (2-2) blocks.  Junior Shannon Nugent accounted for six kills and a team-leading five (1-4) blocks with Holler the most efficient of the Eagle attackers with a .714 attack mark (5-0--7), while adding a pair of block assists.  Miles totaled 31 assists and a team-best 12 digs.

The Eagles return to action, the weekend of Oct. 30-31 when it hosts the Emory Invitational.
