Sydney Miles Garners UAA Volleyball Honor

Sydney Miles Garners UAA Volleyball Honor

Senior Sydney Miles has been named by the University Athletic Association as the Setter/Defensive Player of the Week after helping the No. 3-ranked volleyball team to six wins in as many outings, which included four victories at the UAA Round Robin II.  It is the fourth time this season and ninth in her career that she has been tabbed for the award.

The 6-foot-1 Miles played in all 21 of the team's sets and averaged 11.81 assists and 2.43 digs per game as the Eagles closed out the week with an overall record of 26-2, 7-0 in league action.  After dishing out 42 assists in a 3-0 decision at Piedmont College, Miles recorded 53 assists, 13 digs and a pair of service aces in a 3-1 outcome over NCAA Division II member Lee University.  She continued her outstanding play during the Round Robin II, averaging 10.93 assists, 2.43 digs and 0.57 blocks per set.  In a sweep over No. 15 Chicago, she tallied 46 assists and nine digs and, earlier in the weekend, finished with 44 assists, eight digs and four block assists in a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over No. 1 Washington University.

Through matches played October 18, Miles ranks second on the UAA ladder in assists (11.68 aps), helping Emory hit a league-best .294.

The Eagles, winners of their last 14 matches, return to action the weekend of Oct. 30-31 when they host the Emory Invitational.
