No. 2 Emory Volleyball Tops Two Saturday Foes -- Closes Out Invitational With A 4-0 Record

The Emory volleyball team continued its winning ways on Saturday with a pair of wins on the final day its Invitational.  The Eagles recorded 3-0 triumphs over Millsaps (25-18, 25-18, 25-21) and No. 17 Clarkson University (25-16, 25-18, 30-28), raising their overall record to 30-2. Emory has captured its last 18 matches and was been victorious in its last 24 sets.

Junior Kathryn Trinka put on a hitting display against the Majors of Millsaps, blasting away for a match-best 14 kills and hitting a season-high .636 (14-0—22), the third-highest mark by and Emory player this year.  Junior Jessica Holler recorded 10 terminations en route to compiling an attack percentage of .318 (10-3—22).  Senior setter Sydney Miles came away with five successful swings in six attempts and doled out 36 assists.  The Eagles hit .357 (48-8—112) compared to MC's mark of .100 (28-17-110).

Trinka continued her torrid hitting against the Golden Knights, finishing with a hitting performance of .440 on the strength of 13 terminations with two errors in 25 swings.  Junior Shannon Nugent and freshman Karissa Dzurik each contributed seven kills with Nugent hitting .636 (7-0—11) and Dzurik .412 (7-0—17).  Miles accounted for 32 assists and five digs while junior Sarah Maher and freshman Becky Breuer each tied for the team lead with 10 digs. Emory closed out the contest hitting .313 (39-8—99), the fifth time in the past six matches it hit .300 or better, with Clarkson posting an effort of .184.

The Emory Invitational closed out the regular-season home portion of the schedule, with the Eagles registering a 12-2 won-lost slate at the Woodruff PE Center.

Head coach Jenny McDowell and her squad will now prepare for the University Athletic Association Championships, Nov. 6-7, in Rochester, NY.  The Eagles will enter the Championships as the No. 1 seed and will meet No. 8 seed Brandeis in a quarterfinal-round match on Friday starting at noon.
