Sydney Miles & Kathryn Trinka Earn UAA Volleyball Honors

Senior Sydney Miles and junior Kathryn Trinka have been named the University Athletic Association Volleyball Players of the Week following their performances in helping Eagles to a 4-0 record at the Emory Invitational.   Trinka was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week while Miles was selected as the Setter/Defensive Player of the Week.

The 6-foot-1 Trinka played in all 12 of the team's sets and averaged a squad-high 4.00 kills per game while closing out the weekend with an attack percentage of .472 (48-6--89).   In the opening match of the Invitational against Bridgewater, Trinka led all players with 14 kills and hit .500 (14-2--24) as Emory came away with a 3-0 outcome.  She followed that performance as part of a balanced Eagle attack in a 3-0 triumph over No. 1 Juniata, totaling seven terminations.  On Saturday, Trinka hit a combined .531 (27-2--47) in matches against Millsaps and Clarkson.  Trinka pounded out a match-high 14 terminations and hit .a torrid 636 (14-0--22) vs. the Majors of Millsaps, before closing out the weekend with a fine performance against the No. 17-ranked Golden Knights of Clarkson, pacing the squad with 13 successful attack opportunities to go along with a .440 hitting (13-2--25) effort.

On the year, Trinka has produced 27 matches of double-figure kills and is second in the UAA with a 3.83 kills-per-set average.

The 6-foot-1 Miles earned Invitational MVP honors after playing in all 12 of the team's sets over the weekend and averaging 11.25 assists and 1.75 digs per game.

Miles dished out 36 assists and contributed five digs in a 3-0 decision over Bridgewater College.  She followed that performance with a 31-assists, four-digs outing in sparking Emory to a 3-0 triumph over No. 1-ranked Juniata, the team's third win over a No. 1-ranked program this year.  On the final day of play, Miles totaled 36 assists, five kills, five digs and two block assists vs. Millsaps (3-0 win), before closing out the weekend with 32 assists and seven digs in a 3-0 victory over No. 17-ranked Clarkson.

 

In matches played through Oct. 31, Miles is No. 2 among all D-III players in assists per set (11.63 aps). 

The Eagles of head coach Jenny McDowell, 30-2 on the year, return to action on Friday (Nov. 6) when they take on Brandeis University in the quarterfinals of the UAA Championships in Rochester, NY.
