Sydney Miles Earns Berth On CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

Emory senior Sydney Miles (Oklahoma, OK), a driving force on the Eagles' volleyball squad, has distinguished herself in the classroom, earning a berth on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team.  Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the CoSIDA members.  Emory is a District 5 member, which includes Division III institutions from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

The honor is awarded annually to student athletes who have excelled both academically and athletically.  To be eligible, a nominee must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at his/her current institution, carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and be a starter or key reserve.

Miles, who majors in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology, owns a 3.42 GPA.  The four-year veteran has helped the top-ranked Eagles to an overall record of 32-3 heading into the NCAA D-III Tournament later this week. Miles has appeared in 114 of the team's 120 sets and is averaging 11.54 assists per set, which ranks second among University Athletic Association players and fourth on the school's seasonal chart. She has doled out 50 or more assists on four occasions this year and her total of 1,315 assists ranks 12th on the program's seasonal ladder.  Named the UAA Setter of the Week on five occasions this year, Miles holds down the No. 2 position on the Emory's career chart with 5,699 assists.

By virtue of her selection, Miles advances to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
