The NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship Atlanta Regional began Thursday afternoon with an instant classic as Covenant College upended Birmingham-Southern College in a five set thriller at the Woodruff PE Center on the campus of Emory University.
The Scots rallied from 2-1 down to win the match, advancing to the Second Round with epic 26-24 and 15-13 victories in the final two sets. Covenant trailed BSC 10-8 in the decisive fifth-set after leading the Panthers by an 8-3 margin. But the Scots regroup to take the seven of the final 10 points to win the match. Covenant now awaits the winner of Berry-Hanover on Friday.
The Scots were led by the trio of Hannah Harris, Ginny Moore and Jessica Seehorn who all tallied double-digit kill totals. Harris topped the team with a career-high 17 terminations with Moore and Seehorn chipping in with 14 and 10, respectively. Hannah Stewart posted a team-high 23 digs with Schuyler Moore dishing out 40 assists.
BSC saw Majorie Ward record a game-high 20 kills with Emmy Kilgore added 15 of her own. Rachel Lee led both programs with 45 assists while Melaina Hissam collected 32 digs to pace both squads.
