Three from Emory Volleyball Earn AVCA All-Region Recognition

Three members of the Emory University volleyball team were honored Thursday afternoon by being chosen as All-Region selections by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Juniors Carly Wallace and Amanda Meyer were two of 14 players tabbed to the AVCA All-Region VI team, with each honor marking the first All-Region selection of their careers. Sophomore Alana Dawson added recognition as she was one of six players to gain All-Region Honorable Mention acclaim.

Wallace was instrumental in Emory's success this season as she paced the Eagles with 284 kills during the regular season and finished third on the team in total service aces with 28 to just four service errors, while also registering the third most digs on the team with 242. Wallace had 16 matches where she turned in double-digit kill totals and kicked it to another gear over the final stretch of the season, averaging 12.5 kills during the Eagles current 10-match winning streak including career-best kill totals of 20 and 19 in pivotal wins over No. 8 Berry and No. 6 NYU.

Meyer made her return to the team this season and proved to a force for the Eagles with her play at the net. She collected a team-high 81 blocks in the regular season, a total that puts her fifth in the UAA and 93rd in Division III. Meyer was also a fierce attacker, recording 218 kills across her 27 matches and ranks second on the team and 94th in the country with a .310 hitting percentage. She was named to the Emory National Invitational All-Tournament Team following a weekend performance that including an effort against Birmingham-Southern where she had eight total blocks to go along with 11 kills on a .421 hitting percentage. She added 11 kills against WashU in the UAA championship match, one of her nine matches with 10 or more kills, including seven such matches across her last 12.

Dawson rounds out the Emory honorees with Honorable Mention kudos, her first time being recognized by the AVCA. Despite missing seven matches towards the end of the season, she turned in a strong sophomore campaign where she tallied 183 kills in the regular season, with four matches with 15 or more including a season and career-high 18 kills in the team's win over No. 2 ranked Trinity (TX). Dawson is top-10 in the UAA in both hitting percentage and kills per set and was the UAA Athlete of the Week on September 12 following her play at the East-West Classic against three top-10 teams.

The Eagles are currently in the midst of another postseason appearance, defeating Bethany (WV) in straight sets in the first round and are set to battle regional host Transylvania University Friday night at 8:00 PM in Lexington, Kentucky.
