The Emory University volleyball team defeated the Carnegie Mellon Tartans on Sunday afternoon in five-set fashion in Cleveland, Ohio during the first UAA Round Robin tournament with a line of 22-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19, 15-10.

The Eagles now sit 10-0 on the season after going 3-0 in UAA play this weekend. This is the fifth time in team history Emory has started the season 10-0, the first time since 2015. Today's match also marks the first this season going five sets.

Junior Lily Martin dominated the court offensively recording 22 kills on the day, a career record surpassing her previous high of 16. Senior Carly Wallace followed behind with 14 kills on the day while junior Alana Dawson notched 11 and led the team with a .455 hitting percentage. Junior Deborah Hong continued to show her strength as a libero posting 26 digs on the day, a tie for the third best in her career.

The first set of the day was a close matchup with the Eagles holding on to a 6-2 lead before Carnegie tied the set at 10. The match continued to go back and forth with the Tartans holding an 18-16 lead at the first timeout and took a slight 23-22 lead into the next timeout. Carnegie took the first set 25-22. The Eagles played another close second set holding a 13-8 lead at the first timeout. Kills from Wallace and Martin highlighted the rest of the set with the Eagles taking the set 25-23.

In the third set, the Tartans took an early 8-0 lead followed by the Eagles going on a three-point run. By the next timeout, Carnegie held a 15-12 lead over Emory with the Eagles going on a four-point run to bring the set to 18-17. The effort fell short and the Tartans took the third set 25-19. Emory brought a vengeance to the fourth set taking a 15-12 lead into the first timeout thanks to kills from Dawson and Martin. The Eagles were able to capitalize on more kills from their offense and attack errors from the Tartans to win the set and force a fifth.

Emory jumped to an early 4-0 lead in the fifth set before Carnegie Mellon answered with three points of their own. The set continued back and forth before the Eagles scored four points to take a 13-8 lead. The Tartans scored two more, but an attack error ended the match and Emory took set five.

The Eagles will travel to in-state foe Berry on Saturday, September 30 for a one-game matchup at 6 pm.
