Junior Tess Gallegos highlighted the Emory effort at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships, claiming first place in the 191-runner field with a 6k time of 21:51. Her effort marked the fifth time that an Emory runner had captured the top spot in the event and the first since 2006 when Amy DiBianca accomplished that feat. Her performance helped the Eagles to a second-place finish at the event, the 20th straight season that it had finished either first or second. Emory’s second-place showing enabled it earn an automatic spot in next Saturday’s NCAA Championships in Waverly, Iowa.
