The Emory women's country team closed out its 2012 season Saturday afternoon by competing at the NCAA D-III Championships. The 6K event was held at the LaVern Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Indiana, and hosted by Rose-Hulman.
The Eagles recorded a 31st-place finish out of 32 teams, finishing with 768 points. Taking home the top spot was Johns Hopkins with 158 points with Wartburg claiming runner-up honors (221 pts.). Claremont-Mudd Scripps took home third place with 233 points while Williams (266 pts.) and Wisconsin-Eau Claire (272 pts.) rounded out the top five.
Leading the Emory effort was sophomore Hannah Moriarty who crossed the finish line in a time of 23:18, her second-best effort of the season, that ranked 177th in 263-runner field. Sophomore Marissa Gogniat was four spots behind Moriarty, clocking a 23:20. Rounding out the squad's scorers were Tamara Surtees (23:30), Aileen Rivell (23:47) and Hannah Smith (23:56).
On the men's side, freshman Lukas Mees competed as an individual and turned in an 8K performance of 26:24, placing 206th out of 280 entries.
