The Emory University women's cross country team has announced the program's award winners for the 2012 season.

Sophomore Hannah Moriarty (Nashua, NH) was named the Most Valuable Runner after enjoying a fine campaign that saw her score for the Eagles in six of eight competitions.  She earned University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week recognition following her performance at the Gibson Family Pre-Nationals where she paced the team and ranked 46th overall out of 326 runners with a 6K time of 23:27.  She was Emory's top runner at both the Viking Open and the NCAA D-III Championships, clocking a pair of career-best marks of 23:17 in both events.  Moriarty captured all-region acclaim after crossing the finish line in 22nd position out of 184 contestants at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships.

Sophomore Marissa Gogniat (Monroeville, PA) was chosen as the Most Improved Runner after turning in a strong second half of the season.  She ranked among the squad's top five finishers in four of her seven races with the highlight of her year coming at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships where she was the first Eagle and 18th entry out of 184 to cross the finish line in a time of 23:31, enabling her to garner all-region honors.   She came through with a personal-best showing of 23:20 at the D-III National Championships with that effort good for second on the team.

Senior Calley Edwards (Portland, OR) received the Coach's Award, symbolic of dedication, leadership and inspiration.  A reliable and durable performer, she ranked among the squad's top-five finishers in six of the team's  eight  competitions.  She brought home all-region honors for the third time during her career by virtue of her 34th-place finish (out of 184 runners) at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships.  She was the squad's No. 3 finisher at the UAA Championships with a season-best 6K time of 23:18. In the Eagles' season-opening competition at the Sewanee/Berry Invitational, she ranked second among the Emory contingent and 18th out of 138 runners.
