Junior Marissa Gogniat led the Emory women's cross country team to a first-place finish at the season-opening Berry Invitational.

Gogniat, a two-time All-South/Southeast Region performer, paced the Eagles' contingent and finished second overall out of 49 runners with a 6K time of 23:39.  Gogniat's showing spearheaded a strong overall showing by Emory with the squad claiming the Nos. 2-7 finishes.

Emory wound up the meet with 20 points, well ahead of SCAD Savannah's runner-up total of 51 points.  Host Berry College was third (68 pts.) and LaGrange College was fourth (120 pts.).

Emory returns to action on Sept. 13 when it competes at the Furman Classic.
