Emory University senior Tamara Surtees (Chagrin Falls, OH) has been named by the University Athletic Association as Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week following her performance at the Furman Classic.  It is the first time in her career that she has been selected for the honor.

Competing in the Division II, III and NAIA race at the Classic, Surtees topped the 152-runner field, blazing the 6K course in a time of 22:20 that represented her second-best mark during her collegiate career.  Surtees helped the No. 31-ranked Eagles to a first-place finish out of 17 teams with 36 points, easily outdistancing runner-up North Georgia's 117 points.

Emory returns to action on Sept. 27 when it races at the Gulf Coast Stampede in Pensacola, Florida.
