Emory Women's Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

The Emory University women's cross country team has been recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for excellence both in the classroom and on the running trails during the 2014 season by earning the organization's All-Academic Team Award.

The Eagles of Head Coach John Curtin completed fall term with a team cumulative GPA of 3.69 and were one of 211 Division III programs to earn recognition, with its GPA the sixth highest. To be eligible, a school must have compiled a minimum 3.10 team cumulative GPA and competed in five different meets with at least five runners representing their school at each.

Six Emory runners found their way on the USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Team – freshman Halle Markel (Chagrin Falls, OH), senior Tamara Surtees (Chagrin Falls, OH), senior Elise Viox (St. Louis, MO),  senior Stephanie Crane (Annapolis, MD), senior Marissa Gogniat (Monroeville, PA) and sophomore Sophie Cemaj (Omaha, NE)

A total of 325 female student-athletes from 124 institutions received the honor in 2015. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and have finished in the top 25 percent of finishers at their respective NCAA Regional Championships.
