Senior Elise Viox helped guide the No. 27-ranked Emory women's cross country team to a first-place finish at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships. With their top finish the Eagles earned an automatic bid the NCAA Championships, Nov. 21, in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
Viox topped the 200-runner field with a personal-best 6K time of 22:05, representing the seventh time this season in as many outings that she had finished as the Eagles No. 1 runner, and in the process she became the first Emory performer to cross the finish line first since Tess Gallegos in 2010.
Emory paced the 27-team field with 35 points, well ahead of runner-up Rhodes who totaled 106 points. It marked the Eagles second staright and third Regional crown in the past five years.
