Emory Women's Cross Country Announces 2015 Award Winners

The Emory University women's cross country team has announced the program's award winners for the 2015 season.

Senior Elise Viox (St. Louis, MO) was named the Most Outstanding Performer after registering a banner campaign. Viox ranked as the Eagles' No. 1 runner in all eight competitions, establishing four personal-best times on four occasions.  Selected as the University Athletic Association's Runner of the Week three times during the season, Viox was named by the USTFCCCA as the South/Southeast Region Athlete of the Year after claiming the No. 1 position out of 200 entries at the NCAA Region Championships with a then personal-best 6K time of 22:05. It represented the third time in her career that she captured all-region acclaim.  At the NCAA D-III Championships, Viox capped off her career by clocking a personal-best 22:01, good for 58th place out of 280 contestants.  Her performance at nationals helped Emory to a 21st-place finish, the program's best showing since 2007.  In addition, she raced to All-UAA Second Team honors following her effort at the conference championships.

Sophomore Gabrielle Stravach (Westfield, NJ) received the Coaches' Award, symbolic of dedication, leadership and inspiration.  After being hampered by injuries her rookie season, Stravach emerged as a key member of the Emory contingent, scoring in six of her seven meets.  She posted a personal-best 6K time of 22:32 at the AAE Invitational, good for the No. 3 spot on the team and 50th out of 414 runners. She was Emory's No. 2 finisher in three competitions including the Furman Classic where she helped the Eagles to a first-place finish out of 22 teams, registering a time of 22:45 that placed eighth overall out of 207 entries.

Senior Aileen Rivell (Colts Neck, NJ) was chosen as the Most Improved Runner. Rivell scored for Emory in all six of her competitions, and was the team's No. 2 finisher on five occasions including at the NCAA D-III Championships where she registered a personal-best 6K time of 22:23.  Rivell was Emory's No. 2 performer and fourth overall out of 280 runners at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships, compiling a time of 22:32 and, in the process, earning all-region kudos.  In addition, she was the second Eagle to cross the finish line at the UAA Championships (22:51) and AAE Invitational (22:24).

Freshman Clare Ubersax (Pepper Pike, OH) earned the Most Outstanding Newcomer Award after scoring in four of her eight races.  Ubersax came through with the program's fourth-fastest 6K time for a freshman when she recorded a 22:46 at the NCAA D-III Championships, good for third place on the team. She brought home NCAA South/Southeast All-Region honors after her time of 23:02 ranked fifth among the Eagles and 15th in a 280-runner field.

The team's finish at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships resulted in its second consecutive title and allowed the Eagles to make their 11th straight appearance at the national championships.
