Senior Spotlight: Christina Dwier

The senior spotlight series continues with a look at women's cross country and track & field student-athlete Christina Dwier.

Sport: Cross Country, Track & Field

Major: Nursing

 

How did you start getting involved with cross country? How old were you when you started running?

My sister ran cross country in high school. Since I was a swimmer throughout high school, I only started running when I was 17. I only did track my senior year of high school and ran my first cross country race as at Emory.

Do you have any current plans for after graduation?

Beginning an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program at Emory’s nursing school.

What is one piece of advice you would give to your freshman self?

Be PATIENT and BELIEVE in yourself. Things always work out in the end and you are stronger than you think.

Which Emory faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?

Dr. Samina Damani. She was my clinical instructor for my maternity clinical. Her passion for teaching and the love for her job has inspired me to gain some experience working in the NICU.

What is one class would you retake just for fun and why?

Pharmacology: It is a class that is always important for nursing

What is the most unique thing about your hometown?

My high school has 50-foot wide jumbo Tron on the football field, the largest out of any high school nationwide, and it uses electricity 24 hours a day:)

What is something that people may not know about you but should?

I can name all the presidents in order.

Other than the sport(s) you play, what is another one you think you could play at a high level?

Badminton

What is one professional athlete (past or present) would you like to have a conversation with and why?

Michael Phelps: Not only has he accomplished so much in swimming, but through his foundation, he has been able to make a difference in his community through his sport.

How have you been trying to occupy your time with given the current COVID environment?

Reading, binge-watching all 8 seasons of game of thrones in 3 weeks, cooking

Food you hate that everybody else seems to enjoy?

Cheese

My steeplechase race at Berry my sophomore year.

Favorite non-athletic moment from your past few years at Emory?

ANY time I was able to hang out with my teammates outside of school and running: going out to dinner, getting coffee, team trips

What would be one thing you’d like to impart to the underclassmen before finishing your career?

Whatever you choose to do in life, remember that there is no adversity is too arduous to overcome and never forget to find comfort in the friends that are always there for you.
