Emory University made its second-straight appearance at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships in Appleton, Wisconsin for the first time in the program's history, finishing fifth in the Nation during the 2015 campaign.
Emory finished the year with an overall record of 31-15 and were ranked seventh in the final American Baseball Coaches Association poll and sixth in the final D3Baseball.com rankings. The Eagles were ranked fourth in Division III with 115 stolen bases during the year, 45th with 458 hits, and 61st with 290 runs. Meanwhile, the pitching staff ended the campaign with a 3.67 ERA, the 58th-lowest mark in Division III.
The Eagles' World Series berth came on the heels of their second-straight win at the NCAA South Regional, hosted by Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia. After dropping the first game of the double-elimination tournament, Emory bounced back to win their four games of the regional, defeating ninth-ranked Methodist University 8-1, Marietta College 3-2 in 12 innings, 18th-ranked Pacific Lutheran University 7-6, and 10th-ranked Birmingham-Southern College 8-5 in the regional championship game. Sophomore Jackson Weeg, who earned the win in the championship game after throwing 8.2 innings on just two days of rest, was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, while senior outfielder Brett Lake, sophomore third baseman Philip Maldari, sophomore closer Kyle Monk and junior first baseman Ben Vizvary were each named to the all-tournament team.
Emory went on to win its first game at the Division III World Series for the first time in the program's five trips to the final tournament, defeating 16th-ranked Trinity University (Tex.) 9-7. However, the Eagles suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss in 12 innings to the 22nd-ranked University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, and were eliminated by Trinity with a 10-1 in their next game.
Weeg started the Eagles' victory over Trinity and picked up his 12th win of the season, finishing the year as the Division III leader in the category. He was named to the D3Baseball.com All-America Third Team, becoming the third Emory player to earn all-America honors from the organization, and the 13th All-American overall in the program's history. The southpaw finished the year with a 12-1 record and a 2.59 ERA, while striking out 98 batters (the seventh-most in Division III) over 100.2 innings of work.
In addition to Weeg, Maldari and Monk each earned all-region honors during the 2015 season. Maldari was the team's leader with a .364 batting average, 44 runs scored and 36 runs batted in, while his 21 doubles during the campaign ranked seventh among Division III players during the season. Monk broke the program record with 11 saves during the season (the third-most in Division III in 2015) and tied Emory's career record with 18 career saves, while 4-2 with a 3.43 ERA. Emory second baseman Dylan Eisner was awarded a spot on the all-conference second team, batting .327 with 37 runs scored and 15 stolen bases during the year.
Earlier in the year, Emory finished the 2015 University Athletic Association Championships with a 6-2 record to tie with Washington University (Mo.) for the conference championship. It was Emory's 13th UAA Title, and marked the second-straight season the Eagles have finished first at the conference tournament. Sophomore pitcher Hans Hansen, senior first baseman Jordan Selbach and Weeg were each named to the all-tournament team.
During the course of the year, Emory compiled a season-long five-game winning streak on five different occasions. The Eagles were 10-5 against teams that were featured in the NCAA's final regional rankings.
Two Emory seniors reached the 200-hit milestone during the campaign. Lake earned his 200th career hit against Methodist University during the NCAA Regionals on May 14th, and finished his career with 213 hits, tied for the eighth-most ever by an Eagle. Outfielder Wes Peacock earned his 200th career hit during the Eagles' regional championship-clinching win over Birmingham-Southern, and finished his time at Emory with 201 career hits, tied for 11th in school history.
The 2015 campaign also marked the final season in the career of pitcher Connor Dillman, who ranks second in school history with 47 starts, third with 281 strikeouts and 29 wins, and 14th in earned run average (2.75).
