Eagles to Play Carnegie Mellon with UAA Championship on the Line

The Emory University men's soccer team will face Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Woodruff Physical Education Center, needing a win to clinch at least a share of the 2011 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship.

Senior Day
Prior to the start of Saturday's game, Emory will hold its annual 'Senior Day' ceremonies, during which the team will honor its graduating players.  Included in this year's senior class are Nico Dalton, Nao Masuda, Zach Samuels, Kamron Zia.

Emory Eagles
After a slow start to their 2011 campaign, the Eagles have battled back to go 4-2-0 in UAA games, and can clinch at least a share of the UAA Championship with a win.  In addition, Emory can claim the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with either a win and losses or ties for Washington and Case Western Reserve, or a tie, and losses by Washington and Case Western Reserve.  The Eagles are 10-7-0 overall on the season, including a mark of 6-3-0 in games at the WoodPEC.  Emory is led by head coach Sonny Travis, who holds a 66-18-5 record during his five seasons with the team, and a 362-111-42 record during his 25-year career.

Carnegie Mellon Tartans
Carnegie Mellon will enter play on Saturday with a 6-8-1 record, including a 1-5-0 mark in road games this season.  The Tartans are 2-4-0 in UAA games this season, good for six points and a three-way tie for sixth-place in the conference.  Carnegie Mellon is led offensively by Max Tassano and Carmen Minella (each with five goals and two assists for 12 points), and defensivelt by goalkeeper Christopher Madden, who has started each of the last three games for the Tartans, going 1-2-0 with a 1.31 goals against average and a .688 save percentage.  Carnegie is led by fourth-year head coach Arron Lujan, who has a record of 48-18-4 with the team.

Emory is 10-11-3 all time against Carnegie Mellon, but stands at 7-3-2 in games played in Atlanta, GA.  Last season in Pittsburgh, PA, the Eagles lost to the Tartans 2-0 after being held to just five shots, none of which were on goal.  In the last game played in Atlanta, the two teams played to a 2-2 tie, with the Eagles scoring two goals in the final nine minutes of regulation to tie the match.

Emory Notes
Emory junior David Garofalo was named the UAA Defensive Player of the Week after his performances against Brandeis and NYU last weekend… Emory freshman Dylan Price ranks 238th among Division III players with seven goals this season… He seven scores during the year are the most by a freshman since Ben Schlang scored nine in 2008… Price is on pace to become the first freshman to lead Emory in goals scored since Patrick Carver in 2005 (15 goals)… His 'golden goal' against NYU on Sunday was his second of the season, become just the fifth Eagle (along with John Symbas, Matthew Levine and Patrick McFarland) to record multiple 'golden goals' in a season… Price and Andrew Natalino are tied for second in the UAA with three goals apiece in conference games, and for seventh with six points each... Goalkeeper Andrew Goldblum is second in the UAA with two shutouts in conference play.
