Eagles Hurt by Late Goals in OT Loss to Berry

Eagles Hurt by Late Goals in OT Loss to Berry

A pair of late goals from Berry College, the first in the 88th minute and the second in the 99th minute during overtime, gave the Emory University men's soccer team its third-straight loss, as the Eagles fell 2-1 in Mount Berry, GA on Saturday afternoon.

Senior co-captain Andrew Natalino gave the Eagles a lead with his team-leading fifth goal of the season, scoring unassisted in the 33rd minute of play.  It was the fourth goal in the last three games for Natalino, and his 23rd career goal, tying him for 18th in school history with former Eagle Charles Strauss (1976-78).

Making the first start of his collegiate career, freshman goalkeeper Abe Hannigan helped protect the Eagles lead, making six of his seven saves in the game after Natalino's goal put Emory up 1-0.  However, the last shot of the second half would prove to be the equalizer for the Vikings, as David Shaw would score in the 88th minute, tying the match and eventually sending into overtime.

Berry would strike again late in the first overtime period, as Christian Fulbright scored the game winner in the 99th minute, off an assist from Josh Hughes.

Hannigan took the loss in goal for Emory, which fell to 2-4-1 on the season with the defeat, including an 0-2-1 record in overtime games.  Berry remained perfect for the season, improving to 6-0-0 on the campaign.

The Eagles will look to put an end to the three-game losing streak next Thursday, September 20th, when Emory travels to face Birmingham-Southern College at 8:00 PM ET.
