Emory Gets 3-0 Road Win over Sewanee

The Emory University men's soccer team ran its season-long winning streak to three games on Wednesday night with a 3-0 road victory over Sewanee: The University of the South.

With the win, Emory stands at 5-4-1 on the season, raising its record above .500 for the first time since September 7th.  The loss dropped Sewanee to 3-6-0 for the year.

The Eagles got on the board in the 12th minute of play, as sophomore Dylan Price scored his fifth goal in the last three games.  At the 11:21 mark, the forward was able to collect a rebound after a shot from Andrew Jones was saved by the Sewanee goalkeeper, and return a chance on goal for the score.  It was the eighth goal of the season for Price, tying him with senior Andrew Natalino for the team lead, and the third assist of the year for Jones.

Although Emory would not score again for the remainder of the first half, the Eagles' defense would maintain the 1-0 lead, limiting the Tigers to just two shots, only one of which was on goal.  Emory managed to finish the first half with 10 shots, five of which were on goal.

The Eagles added to their lead in the 54th minute, as senior Alex Scott scored an unassisted goal, his first of the season, to extend the team's advantage to 2-0.  Emory struck again in the 62nd minute, as Carl Credle scored his second goal of the season, both coming in the last two games, boosting Emory's lead to three.  Jones was credited with his second assist of the game on Credle's goal, tying him for the team lead with four assists this season.

The Eagles' backline would continue to play strong in the second half, allowing just six total shots to the Tigers in the game, only one of which was on goal.  It marked Emory's third-straight shutout, and fourth overall in 2012.  Freshman goalkeeper Abe Hannigan needed to make just one save in 83 minutes, en route to his third-straight win in goal, improving to 3-1-0 this season.

The Eagles will now turn their attention to University Athletic Association (UAA) play, as Emory will host the University of Chicago in its conference opener on Saturday, September 29th at 1:30 PM.  Saturday's game will also be the feature game of Emory's homecoming weekend.
