#6 Emory to Host Oglethorpe in Final Game before UAA Competition

With one game remaining before the start of conference competition, the sixth-ranked and undefeated Emory University Men's Soccer Team will welcome the Oglethorpe University Stormy Petrels to the Woodruff Physical Education Center for a 7:00 PM contest on Wednesday, October 1st.

Also on Wednesday, now in his eighth season with the Eagles, Emory Head Coach Sonny Travis will be aiming for his 100th victory with the squad.

Emory Eagles
Emory moved up a spot to sixth in the most recent NSCAA D-III Men's Soccer Poll and to ninth in the D3Soccer.com poll, while remaining atop the South Atlantic Region rankings.  The Eagles will enter Wednesday's contests as one of the hottest teams in Division III, as winners of nine-straight games and undefeated on the season with a 9-0-1 overall record, including a 3-0-1 mark at home.  Emory's strength this season has been its defense, which ranks 15th in Division III with a 0.48 goals-against average, and has allowed the team to outshoot opponents by averages of 17.3 – 9.9 shots and 7.8 – 3.4 shots on goal per game.  Offensively, Emory has outscored teams 24-5, and is 70th among Division III teams with 2.4 goals scored per game.

The Eagles' attack has been led by the three-player combination of sophomore Jason Andrejchak (four goals and six assists for 14 points), senior Dylan Price (four goals and five assists for 13 points) and junior Sebastian Hardington (five goals and two assists for 12 points).  Freshman Jason McCartney has added an additional three goals and one assist during his inaugural collegiate campaign.  In goal, junior Abe Hannigan has started nine games, going 8-0-1 with a 0.54 goals-against average (25th in Division III), a 0.833 save percentage (55th in Division III) and five individual shutouts.

Emory is led by Head Coach Sonny Travis, who has compiled a 99-32-10 record during his eight seasons with the Eagles.  For his 29-year career, which includes stints as the head coach at Centre College and Virginia Wesleyan College, he has a record of 393-124-45, and entered the campaign ranked 13th among active Division III coaches in victories and 17th among Division III coaches all-time with a .735 winning percentage.  Travis is assisted by Cory Greiner and goalkeeper coach Diarmuid McGuigan.

Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels
The Stormy Petrels will enter Wednesday's game with an overall record of 5-4-1, including a mark of 1-1-1 in road games this season.  The team began the week ranked 195th in Division III with a 1.37 goals-against average and 316th with 1.1 goals per game this year.  Oglethorpe has outshot its opponents by a 161 – 115 margin, including a 52-49 edge in shots on goal.

Sophomore Joe McGee is the team's leading scorer with three goals and an assist, while junior Nick Muntean has added two goals and three assists.  Sophomore goalkeeper Vaughn Moore has made eight starts this year, recording a 1.35 GAA and a .718 save percentage.

Oglethorpe is led by Head Coach Jon Akin, who has a record of 108-867-14 during his 12-year career, all of which has been spent with the Stormy Petrels.  He is assisted by Ryan Roushandel, Clayton Schmitt, Juan Castellanos, Jaime Benedetti, Bert Leonard and Gabriel Chapman.

Series History
Emory is 30-3-1 all-time against Oglethorpe, including a 12-1-1 record at home, but has dropped each of the last two games to the Stormy Petrels.  Last season, the Eagles suffered a 2-1 loss at Oglethorpe, with Dylan Price scoring Emory's only goal, off an assist from senior Jeffrey Cochran.  Senior Zachary Rosenberg also has a career assist against the Stormy Petrels.

Emory is one of 17 remaining undefeated teams in Division III… The Eagles' nine game winning streak is tied for the eighth-longest mark in the program's history, and is the team's longest since a 10-game winning streak in 2010… Emory's 12-game unbeaten streak is the fifth-longest in the program's history… The Eagles have recorded four-straight shutouts, the fifth-longest such streak by an Emory squad and the longest since a nine-game streak during the 2010 campaign… The squad has not allowed a goal in the last 415 minutes and 57 second of game play… Emory has outscored its opponents 9-0 in the last four games, and 20-2 in the last eight contests… This is the eighth time in the program's history, and the first time since 2010, that the Eagles have gone unbeaten through their first 10 games of the season… Sebastian Hardington's four game-winning goals this season are tied for the 10th most in a single year in the program's history, and are three behind the program record, held by Dennis Jerkunica (1992) and Patrick Carver (2007)…  Dylan Price's four game-winning assists this season are tied for the fifth-most in the program's history and two shy of the program record, held by Karl Dix (2005) and Ahmed Mohyeldin (1998)… His seven career game-winning assists are tied for eighth in school history.
