Price & Sherr Receive Capital One Academic All-District Recognition

Based on their academic and athletic success, Emory University senior forward Dylan Price and junior defender Matt Sherr were named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

This was the second career Academic All-District honor for Price, and the first for Sherr.  By virtue of being named to the Capital One Academic All-District team, both Price and Sherr will be placed on the ballot for the Academic all-America Team.  The first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on Friday, November 21st.

Price, an All-Region Third Team and All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Second Team selection in 2013, has scored four goals and assisted on five others for 13 points this season, including one game-winning goal.  Earlier in the season, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the Sonny Carter Invitational, becoming the first two-time MVP in the tournament's 12-year history.  For his career, he ranks third in program history with 12 game-winning goals, 10th with 33 total goals, and 15th with 79 points.  Academically, Price has a 3.7 cumulative grade point average as a Business and Russian dual major, while earning Academic All-UAA honors all three of his eligible season.

Sherr has served as the team co-captain this season, and has been the anchor of an Emory defense that has recorded a 0.64 goals-against average, the 25th-lowest mark in Division III.  The center back has helped the team hold opponents to averages of 10.5 shots and 3.5 shots on goal per game in 2014.  Earlier in the season he was named the Most Valuable Player of the Warrior Classic, after claiming sports on the All-Region Third Team and All-UAA First Team last season.  He has contributed offensively as well with two goals and an assist this season, including the 'golden goal' in an overtime win against Washington University (Mo.).  In the classroom, Sherr has a 3.85 cumulative grade point average as a Business major, and has earned UAA All-Academic recognition each of the last two years.

Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Emory is part of District 5, which includes Division III schools in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Emory, ranked 24th in Division III with an 11-3-1 overall record, will be back in action this weekend, wrapping up its regular season home schedule by hosting the University of Rochester on Friday at 5:00 PM and Case Western Reserve University on Sunday at 11:00 AM.
