The Emory men's soccer team fell to Spalding University 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in the second game of the Bob Allen Nissan Classic held at Centre College in Danville, KY.
Senior Matt Sherr provided the lone offensive for the Eagles on the afternoon, putting in the rebound off an Austin Mirabella shot in the 73rd minute. Sherr's tally cut the Spalding lead to 2-1.
The Golden Eagles jumped out in front in the 28th minute on a goal from Julio DeLeon. Cory House made it 2-0 Spalding with a goal in the 61st minute of play.
After Sherr's goal, House found the back of the net for the second time in the game, scoring almost five minutes later to give the final margin.
Emory outshot Spalding 16-7 in the game but was done in by some bad luck as the Golden Eagles had just three shots on goal, however all of them found a way past Abe Hannigan.
The Eagles return home next Saturday, September 12th to play Berry in a rematch of last year's NCAA first round matchup. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 2:00pm from the Woodruff PE Center field.
