Hannigan Becomes All-Time Shutout Leader in Win at Chicago

Sebastian Hardington gave the Emory University men's soccer team the 1-0 win in double overtime on Saturday at the University of Chicago, firing home a free kick in the 102nd minute. The win gave the Eagles' their fifth win in a row to improve to 6-3-1 and helped Emory start off 1-0 in University Athletic Association play.

With the shutout, fellow senior Abe Hannigan became the all-time leader in school history with 22 career shutouts. He broke a tie with Larry Meyer who had 21 clean sheets from 1984-86. Hannigan made three saves in his record breaking outing and has now posted four straight shutouts.

After a foul just outside the 18, Hardington lined up to take the free kick. The senior rifled one top shelf to the far corner of the net, completely freezing the Maroon goalkeeper in the process. The goal was Hardington's fifth on the season and his first game-winner of the year.

In the game, Emory outshot Chicago 16-12 but limited the Maroons to just three shots on goal.

The Eagles will return home for the first time since September 19th to continue UAA action as they host #14 Washington University next Saturday at the Woodruff PE Center. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM.
