Men's Soccer Heads to Case Western and Carnegie Mellon for Weekend Action

The Emory University men's soccer team carries their six-game winning streak into the weekend as the Eagles face two UAA opponents on the road at Case Western Reserve (Friday, 7:30pm) and Carnegie Mellon (Sunday, 1:30 PM).

Emory Eagles Notes & Preview

The Blue and Gold extended their winning streak to six and remained perfect in the UAA at 2-0 by knocking off #17 Washington University on Saturday 1-0…Sophomore Christian Meyer scored the game-winner in the 81st minute after two great passes from Scott Haley and Matt Sherr…Meyer now leads the team with two game-winning goals on the season and ranks T-5th in the UAA in that category…Sherr was named the UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week for his performance in the game, leading the Emory defensive unit that limited the Bears to six shots with just one being on goal…This is the second straight UAA Defensive AOW award for the Eagles after fellow senior Abe Hannigan earned the honor the previous week…Hannigan collected his fifth straight shutout, a career-best mark and the second longest streak in program history, and has not allowed a goal in the last 477.12 minutes…With one more shutout, Hannigan will tie the school record…Emory entered the D3Soccer.com Top 25 Poll this week for the first time this season, receiving 18 votes.

Case Western Reserve Spartans Notes & Preview

The Spartans enter Friday night's meeting 9-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the UAA and are also receiving votes in the D3Soccer.com Top 25 poll with 44 votes…Senior Chris Cvecko has already found the back of the net 10 times this year to lead the CWRU offense…He adds two assists for a team-leading 22 points…His 10 tallies are tied for the UAA lead…Sophomore Michael Balog ranks second on the squad with six goals on the season to go along with four assists for 16 points…Seven other Spartans have found the back of the net in 2015 for Case…Sophomores Calvin Boyle and Christian Grimme have both played in seven games with Boyle making seven starts and Grimme making five…Boyle has posted a 5-1-1 record with 25 saves for a .781 save percentage and a 1.09 goals-against average…Grimme is 4-1 on the year with four shutouts, a 0.36 GAA and a .867 save percentage, making 13 saves…The Spartans are coached by Brandon Bianco who is 23-15-9 in his third season with the team.

Carnegie Mellon Tartans Notes & Preview

The Tartans carry an 8-2-1 overall record and also own a 1-1 mark in UAA play coming into the weekend and will face Rochester on Friday night…CMU is led on the offensive end by William Webb who is tied with CWRU's Cvecko with 10 goals on the season…Webb has also dished out five assists for 25 points which leads the UAA…Three Tartans, Stefan Dasbach, Tristian Lockwood and Ryan Stinebaugh, have registered five goals thus far for second-best on the team and five other members have connected with the back of the net for the Tartans…In goal, Eric Bykowsky has seen action in 11 games, making 10 starts, and has recorded four shutouts, a 1.24 goals-against average and a .618 save percentage…CMU is led on the sidelines by Brandon Bowman…In his two seasons with the program, Bowman is 16-7-4.

All-Time Series Records

Emory has dominated the all-time series against Case Western Reserve, owning a 25-2-1 record in 28 career meetings and are 11-1-1 at Case. The Eagles have won three straight in the series including a 1-0 decision in each of the last two years.

Carnegie Mellon owns a slight edge over Emory all-time with a 12-11-5 record including an 8-4-2 mark over the Eagles at home. The two teams have tied in the previous two meetings, both by 0-0 scores.

Up next for the Eagles is the final non-conference matchup of the year against the Birmingham Southern on Wednesday, October 21. The game will be played at the Woodruff PE Center and is scheduled for a 7:0pm kickoff.
