Emory's Six-Game Winning Streak Snapped at Case

Case Western Reserve defeated the Emory University men's soccer team 2-0 on Friday night to hand the Eagles their first loss since September 12th, snapping the Emory's six-game winning streak.

The Spartans capitalized on a free kick by Jacob Phillips late in the first half and added an insurance goal from Noah Kleedtke in the 83rd minute to give the Eagles their first defeat in UAA play.

Phillips lined up for a free kick about 35 yards out and proceeded to bend it in over a leaping Abe Hannigan to give Case the 1-0 advantage in the 41st minute. The goal broke Emory's and Hannigan's scoreless streak that lasted 517:26 minutes, the longest streak in Hannigan's career. The senior GK made three saves in the game.

The Spartans added another tally off the foot of Kleedtke with 7:46 remaining in the second half. After a give-and-go, Jacob Grindel made a great cross to Kleedtke who one-timed it off the crossbar and into the net to give CWRU the two goal lead.

Case Western outshot Emory 13-7 in the contest with a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Sebastian Hardington and Moustafa Khattab each had two shots to lead the Eagles.

Emory will look to rebound when the team faces Carnegie Mellon at 1:30pm on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh.
