Early Goal Helps NYU Down Emory, 1-0

The Emory University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback to New York University on a rainy Sunday afternoon at the Woodruff PE Center. With the defeat, the Eagles drop to 8-6-2 on the year and 2-3-1 in the UAA. NYU improves to 6-11 and 1-5 in the UAA.

NYU scored an early goal by Richard Mitrano in the sixth minute. Mitrano had a nice backpost header that came off the Tristian Medios-Simon cross. It was Mitrano's fourth goal of the season.

Emory had two chances in the final minutes to try and pull even. Matt Sherr had a header just sail high over the crossbar with 3:45 remaining and Gabriel Vasconcelos had a leaping header with 34 seconds left on the clock that also just went over the crossbar.

NYU had a slim advantage in shots, 11-10, including a 3-2 mark for shots on goal. Both goalkeepers, Lucas Doucette and Abe Hannigan, recorded two saves in the contest.

The Eagles conclude the 2015 regular season next Saturday, November, 7th, when they host the University of Rochester at 1:30 PM at the Woodruff PE Center.
