Men's Soccer Sweeps UAA Weekly Awards

Senior defender Matt Sherr and sophomore forward Austin Mirabella were named the UAA Athletes of the Week after helping the Emory University men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Rochester in the season finale on Saturday. Sherr was named the Defensive Athlete of the Week while Mirabella earned the offensive award.

Sherr scored the game-winning goal for the Eagles as he put a header into the backpost just 9:47 into the contest. The goal was his fourth of the season. The senior also led the defensive unit that earned their 8th shutout of the season, limiting the Yellowjackets to just four shots on goal in the contest. The honor is Sherr's second of the season and the fifth in his career.

Mirabella netted his first two goals of the season to help secure the victory for Emory. It was just the second time this year that an Eagle recorded more than one goal in a game.  Mirabella scored the first of his two goals in the 30th minute as he poked in a loose ball after it hit off sophomore Jason McCartney inside the box following an Adam Ferguson corner kick. The sophomore added the final blow at the 56th minute mark, putting in the rebound after a Nick Schook shot that was saved by the Yellowjackets' goalkeeper. It is the first UAA Athlete of the Week honor in Mirabella's career.

Emory finished the season 9-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 in UAA play, missing out on an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

These Eagles have been named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week previously this season:

Abe Hannigan - October 5th (Defense)

Matt Sherr - October 12th (Defense)

Leo Ragazzo – October 26th (Defense)

Austin Mirabella – November 9th (Offense)

Matt Sherr – November 9th (Defense)
