Leo Ragazzo Named UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week

Leo Ragazzo Named UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week

Senior defender Leo Ragazzo was named the University Athletic Association Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Ragazzo, who was making his first start of the season, helped the Emory defense limit the Birmingham Southern (11-3-2) offense to just one shot in the game. It was the lowest shot total allowed by an Eagles defensive unit since Sept. 23, 2009. The senior also notched his first point since his sophomore season, assisting on Christian Meyer's game-winning goal in the 95th minute to help Emory secure the 1-0 OT win over the Panthers.

The Eagles return to the pitch this weekend with UAA matchups against Brandeis and NYU. On Friday night before the game against the Judges, Ragazzo and the rest of the senior class will be honored with an on-field ceremony.

These Emory players have been named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week previously this season:

Abe Hannigan - October 5th (Defense)

Matt Sherr - October 12th (Defense)

Leo Ragazzo – October 26th (Defense)
