2016 Men's Soccer Athletes of the Week

    Sophomore Moustafa Khattab netted the game-winning goal against NYU on Sunday to help Emory post a 1-1 record over the weekend in UAA action. Khattab's goal was his fifth of the season and the third that acted as a game-winner, tying for the team lead.

    Junior Michael Carragher found the back of the net in the 39th minute to break a scoreless tie against Covenant on Saturday afternoon. His goal acted as the game-winner as the Eagles went on to defeat the Scots 4-0, pushing their season-best unbeaten streak to five games.

    Junior Cody Gardiner anchored an Emory defensive unit that held Covenant College to just five shots total, two on goal, in the Eagles 4-0 victory versus the Scots on Saturday. Gardiner added a goal in the win, marking his second tally of the campaign. With the victory, Emory pushed its season-long unbeaten streak to five games.

    Junior Jason McCartney led all Emory scorers with three points as the Eagles went 1-0-1 in two UAA games this past weekend to remain in sole possession of second place in the conference standings. McCartney assisted on Emory's first goal in a 2-1 OT win over Case Western Reserve on Friday night before registering Emory's lone tally in a 1-1 double overtime tie against Carnegie Mellon on Sunday afternoon.

    Sophomore Moustafa Khattab scored the game-winner in the 87th minute as Emory took down previously unbeaten and 8th-ranked WashU on Saturday afternoon. Khattab added two assists to finish with four points on the week as he had a pair of helpers in the Eagles' 3-2 OT win at Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday night. During the two contests, Khattab aided in the defensive efforts, helping to limit BSC to 11 shots and WashU to 10 shots total.

    Junior Jason McCartney helped the Eagles go 2-0 this week, scoring two goals and dishing out two assists for six points in Emory's two wins over Birmingham-Southern and #8 WashU. On Tuesday, McCartney had a career-high five points (2G, 1A) and scored the golden goal to defeat BSC 3-2 in OT. On Saturday, McCartney collected his UAA-leading sixth assist, dishing out a helper on Emory's first goal against the eighth-ranked Bears.

    Junior Jake Deuel recorded his first career shutout on Wednesday night, making three saves in Emory's 1-0 win over Sewanee University. Two of Deuel's three stops came in the final minute of action as he made a great one-handed diving save before making another close range stop moments later to preserve the 1-0 lead.

    Junior Adam Ferguson scored the lone goal for either team in Emory's 1-0 win over Sewanee on Wednesday night to give the Eagles their third straight win. Ferguson one timed a shot from the penalty spot, banking it in off the left post following the pass from classmate junior Jason McCartney in the 15th minute of the contest. The goal was the first of Ferguson's career.

    Junior Jake Deuel earned the first two wins of his career this weekend as Emory defeated regional foes Berry and Oglethorpe. Deuel made six stops total in the two victories including a career-high four in the win over the Stormy Petrels on Saturday night.

Khattab assisted on both of Emory's two goals in the 2-1 win against the Vikings on Friday before registering the game-winning goal against the Stormy Petrels on Saturday night.

    Junior Jason McCartney led the Emory offensive attack this past weekend as the Eagles registered a 1-1 record against USA South foes, Methodist and NC Wesleyan. McCartney netted the game-winning goal in the victory over the Monarchs and collected his team-leading third assist on Emory's lone goal against the Battling Bishops.

    Junior Jason McCartney lead the Eagles with four points over the weekend, earning a spot on the Sonny Carter Invitational team as Emory went 1-1 in the annual tournament. McCartney assisted on a pair of goals in Saturday's double overtime defeat to Texas-Tyler and picked up his first goal of the season in Emory's 2-0 victory over Maryville on Sunday.
