    Freshman Shellie Kaniut led the team in scoring average in a pair of UAA road games over the weekend. The 5-foot-7 Kaniut averaged 13.5 points and shot 80 percent (8-of-10) from the foul line as the Eagles came out on the short end of contests at Chicago and Wash U. Kaniut produced 15 points against the Maroons of UC, hitting 6-of-11 from the floor, including her lone three-point opportunity, and sank both of her free throw attempts. Against Wash U, Kaniut was the team's lone double-figure scorer with 12 points and added a pair of assists along with three rebounds. Kaniut has led the team's scoring efforts on four occasions this year and has chalked up seven double-figure scoring efforts.

    Senior guard Savannah Morgan helped the No. 13-ranked Emory women's basketball team to a pair of season-opening wins. Morgan averaged 11.5 points, 4.5 assists and 31.0 minutes of action as the Eagles defeated Salem College and Oglethorpe University. Morgan paced the team's scoring attack with 14 points, hitting six-of-14 from the floor, along with a pair of free throws, and tied for game-high honors with three steals as the Eagles subdued the Spirits by a 69-60 count. In a decisive 77-50 decision over Oglethorpe, Morgan totaled nine points and dished out seven assists with no turnovers in 25 minutes. Morgan's career assists total now stands at 400, just eight shy of tying for the program's all-time record of 408 held by Amy Carter (1993-97).
