Arnold, Costopoulos & Gorodetsky Selected to Academic All-District Teams

Arnold, Costopoulos & Gorodetsky Selected to Academic All-District Teams

Emory University seniors Kelly Costopoulos and Lauren Gorodetsky and sophomore Liz Arnold were each selected to the Capital One Academic Women's Soccer All-District Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), based on their performances both in the field and in the classroom for the seventh-ranked Eagles this season.

This was the third-straight season that Costopoulos and Gorodetsky were selected to the Academic All-District Team, and the first selection for Arnold in her first year of eligibility for the honor.  Costopoulos and Gorodetsky each went on to earn Capital One Academic All-America acclaim in 2012, with Costopoulos receiving a second team selection, and Gorodetsky claiming a place on the third team.

Costopoulos (Boca Raton, FL / Boca Raton Community), a two-year captain for the Eagles, has scored four goals (including one game winner) and assisted on another this season for nine points.  For her career, the attacking center midfielder ranks third in school history with 10 game-winning goals, eighth with 24 total goals and 10th with 59 points.  In addition, she was named to the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region First Team in 2012, and is a two-time all-University Athletic Association (UAA) second team selection, including earning the conference's Rookie of the Year honor during her freshman campaign.  Costopoulos, an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship nominee, has a 3.94 grade point average as a biology major during her time at Emory.

Gorodetsky (Palm City, FL / Jensen Beach), the reigning D3Soccer.com Defensive Player of the Year, is a three-time All-American and two-time UAA Most Valuable Player, in addition to being the only active player selected to the UAA 25-Year Anniversary Team last season.  She has scored 10 goals over her career, six of which have been of the game-winning variety, and she ranks second in school history with 78 games played.  Defensively, the center back has been the anchor of one of the best defenses in Division III over the past four season, and has helped the squad record a seven shutouts and a 0.58 goals against average this season, the 35th-best mark in the country.  Gorodetsky has a 3.89 GPA as a Psychology and Political Science dual major.

In her first season as the starting goalkeeper for the Eagles, Arnold (Cincinnati, OH / Summit Country Day) has played in all 15 games and made 11 starts, recording a 0.52 goals-against average, the 26th-best mark among Division III keepers.  Over her 1,044 minutes in goal, she has conceded just six goals while making 31 saves, and her .838 save percentage is 79th in the nation.  The sophomore has notched a 10-2-1 record with three individual shutouts during the campaign.  Arnold has a 3.89 GPA as a Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology and Psychology dual major.

By virtue of being named to the Capital One Academic All-District team, all three players will be placed on the ballot for the Academic all-America Team.  The first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on Friday, November 22nd.

Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Emory is part of District 5, which includes Division III schools in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

The Eagles, ranked seventh in the latest NSCAA Division III poll, stand at 11-3-1 this season, including a 3-1-0 mark in UAA play.  Emory will be back in action this weekend, traveling to play the University of Rochester on Friday and Case Western Reserve University on Sunday.
