Meyer Claims UAA Defensive Award

Meyer Claims UAA Defensive Award

Emory University freshman Hannah Meyer was selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Defensive Athlete off the Week for Women's Soccer, after leading the eighth-ranked Eagles to a pair of shutout wins on the road last weekend.

Meyer was the only Emory position player to play all 180 minutes during the weekend, limiting the opposition to a combined 11 shots, just four of which were on goal.  On Friday at the University of Rochester, the center back helped hold the Yellowjackets to two shots in the game, with just one on goal, during a 2-0 win.  She followed that performance by helping Emory defeat Case Western Reserve University 1-0 on Sunday, allowing just nine total shots and three on goal to the Spartans.

Meyer and the Emory defense have recorded four straight shutouts and nine overall this season, as the squad lowered its goals-against average to 0.52 in 2013.  In addition, the Eagles have not allowed a goal in the last 438 minutes and 11 seconds, during which Meyer has played all but 32 minutes.

Emory improved to 13-3-1 overall with the weekend wins, including a 5-1-0 mark in UAA games.  The Eagles will wrap-up their 2013 regular season on Saturday, November 9th, hosting Carnegie Mellon University at 1:30 PM at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.

The following Eagles have been named UAA Athletes of the Week for the 2013 women's soccer season:
