Gorodetsky Named UAA Athlete of the Week

Gorodetsky Named UAA Athlete of the Week

Emory University senior was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week, after scoring a goal and assisting on another during the Eagles' 3-0 win over 23rd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday.

Gorodetksy's three points in Saturday's game led all University Athletic Association (UAA) players during the week.  The center back scored her fourth goal of the season on a header in the 20th minute of play, giving the Eagles' a 1-0 lead.  She later assisted on Emory's second goal of the contest, sending a long free kick into the box to setup the goal.  Defensively, the senior played all 90 minutes and anchored a defense that held the Tartans to just six shots, including only one in the second half and just two on goal.

Of her four goals this season, three have been game winners, and her 10 points are the fifth-most by an Eagle this season.  Additionally, the two-time University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Valuable Player has been the leader of an Eagles' defense that has recorded a 0.49 goals-against average and 10 shutouts, including five-straight clean sheets.

This was Gorodetsky's 12th career UAA Athlete of the Week honor and her first for her offensive achievements.

Emory ended the regular season on a seven-game winning streak, finishing with a 14-3-1 record and a 6-1-0 mark in UAA contests.  The Eagles will open NCAA Championship play this weekend, hosting Piedmont College on Saturday, November 16th at 11:00 AM at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.
