Peterson Selected as UAA Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week

Emory University junior Ally Peterson was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Defensive Athlete of the Week after helping guide the 21st-ranked Eagles to three shutouts in as many games, including a pair in conference play.

Peterson was the only Eagle to play all 290 minutes of action during the week, helping to limit the Eagles' three opponents to a combined 21 shots and 10 shots on goal.  On Wednesday against Birmingham-Southern College, the center back helped restrict the Panthers to just eight shots, with only four on goal, leading Emory to a 2-0 win.  During Friday's 0-0 double-overtime tie with the University of Rochester, she held the opponents to just eight shots and four shots on goal once again.  Capping off the weekend, Peterson limited Case Western Reserve University to five shots, with just a pair on target.

Peterson is the only player to have started every game for the Eagles this season, helping the defense record a 0.43 goals-against average, the 14th-best mark in Division III, and 10 shutouts.  This was the first UAA Athlete of the Week honor of her career.

Emory, 10-1-6 overall this season, is tied for fourth-place in the UAA with a 1-1-4 conference record.  The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, November 8th at 2:30 PM, wrapping up their 2014 regular season against fourth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
