#21 Women’s Soccer to Open NCAA Play against Kenyon on Saturday

Emory University, ranked 21st in Division III, will be looking to advance to the round of 16 of the NCAA Division III Championships for the fifth-consecutive season when the team heads to Crestview Hills, Kentucky for the first and second rounds of the tournament on Saturday, November 15th and Sunday, November 16th.

Emory (11-1-6) will open NCAA Championship competition on Saturday at 1:30 PM against Kenyon College (12-7-1).  On the other side of the draw, host and ninth-ranked Thomas More College (20-1-0) will play Maryville College (14-6-1) at 11:00 AM on Saturday.  The winners of the two games will play on Sunday at 1:00 PM in the second round, with the victor of that game advancing to the sectional round the following weekend, the site of which will be determined later.

Emory is the lone team in the pod to receive an at-large bid to the tournament, after finishing fourth in the University Athletic Association (UAA), despite being the only team in the league with less than two losses.  The other three teams each received automatic bids – Kenyon by winning the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament, Thomas More by winning the Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament, and Maryville by winning the USA South Conference tournament.

Kenyon Ladies
Kenyon ended its regular season on a hot streak, winning five-straight and eight of their final nine, en route to winning the NCAC Championship.  This marks the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2006, and its second overall.  Included in the Ladies' 12-7-1 overall ledger is a mark of 5-5-0 in games away from home.  The team was ranked fifth in the final Great Lakes Region poll, and unranked nationally.

The Ladies have scored 33 goals in 20 games this season, good for an average of 1.65 goals per game, the 198th-best mark among Division III teams.  Almost half of the offense has come from senior forward Becca Romaine, who ranks 51st among D-III players with 16 goals, and 72nd with 35 points.  Another nine goals and five assists have come from sophomore forward Maggie Smith, the only other player on the roster with double-digit points this season.  Kenyon has taken 310 shots during the year, including 156 on goal, good for averages of 15.5 and 7.8 per game.

Defensively, Kenyon has surrendered 24 scores for a 1.165 goals-against average, the 164th-best mark in Division III.  Goalkeeper Alissa Poolpol has started all but one game this season for the Ladies, recording a 1.17 GAA and a .779 save percentage.  The team has totaled six shutouts, while allowing 11.5 shots and 5.7 shots on goal per game in 2014.

Kenyon is led by Kelly Bryan, who holds a career record of 155-110-21, which includes a four-year stint at North Carolina Wesleyan.  She will enter Saturday's game one win shy of 100 for her 11-years with Kenyon, with a mark of 99-86-14 with the squad.  Bryan is assisted by Kaitlyn Mallernee.

Series History
Emory last played Kenyon during the 2005 season, Sue Patberg's first as the Eagles Head Coach and her fifth game overall with the program.  The Eagles came away with a 3-0 win in the contest, held at the Woodruff P.E. Center.  The only other match between the two teams was a 2-2 overtime tie during the 1987 season, also at the WoodPEC.
